MAKE CITIES AND HUMAN SETTLEMENTS INCLUSIVE, SAFE, RESILIENT, AND SUSTAINABLE

TRANSPORTATION

The way people get around cities is an important indicator of sustainability. At USJ, we promote the use of public transportation. Our campus planning also emphasises convenient access to public transport and to both Qingmao Port and Border Gate, with routes designed to optimise connectivity between transportation hubs and the university. USJ also places a strong emphasis on pedestrian priority access, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all individuals. Vehicles are restricted to the campus grounds and must be pre-arranged to enter, minimising disruption. To encourage bicycle use, USJ installed a designated bicycle rack area for students and staff who commute to the University by bicycle.

EXHIBITION AND WORKSHOP

USJ strives to provide our students with a sound academic foundation and to contribute to their integrated development as responsible global citizens. In the academic year 2024-2025, we presented the Diffuse Bamboo Pavilion Exhibition. This Exhibition was also featured in the April 2025 Edition of Architecture Macau Magazine. The Bamboo Pavilion, a long-standing tradition at USJ, combines traditional bamboo craftsmanship and local artisanship with the innovative digital design expertise of our architecture and design students.

HOUSING

We provide affordable housing to staff and students in our on-campus residential building, further conserving the time and energy otherwise spent commuting to and from the University.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Throughout the year, USJ engages in several public and community initiatives and activities to support arts and heritage, including public exhibitions and cultural events. USJ had several public performances/exhibitions in the 2024/2025 academic year. For more highlights, visit the USJ Arts & Heritage Contribution.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, we hosted our annual International Cultural Carnival. This event celebrated USJ’s multiculturalism and promoted cross-cultural interaction and exchange, and the event was open to the general public. We also hosted a Film Documentary “YAGI”. The Macao premiere attracted an audience of around 200 attendees. The premiere marked a meaningful celebration for us, honouring both our architectural heritage and our commitment to fostering global collaboration.
