MAKE CITIES AND HUMAN SETTLEMENTS INCLUSIVE, SAFE, RESILIENT, AND SUSTAINABLE
TRANSPORTATION
The way people get around cities is an important indicator of sustainability. At USJ, we promote the use of public transportation. Our campus is conveniently located a short distance from bus stops. To reduce commuting time and energy, USJ allows remote work for some employees. To encourage bicycle use, USJ installed a designated bicycle rack area for students and staff who commute to the University by bicycle.
HOUSING
USJ provides affordable housing to staff and students in our on-campus residential building, further conserving the time and energy otherwise spent commuting to and from the University.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Sustainable businesses contribute to economic development and positively impact the community. USJ partners with the government and other organisations to provide entrepreneurial opportunities for the development of sustainable businesses. We are committed to offering start-up opportunities in terms of training, capital, resources, space, and networking.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, USJ hosted a spectacular International Cultural Carnival, showcasing diverse cultural traditions and encouraging social cohesion, which are essential components of sustainable urban communities. USJ participated in a Conference that provided valuable insight into sustainable digital preservation aligning with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; Digital Heritage and Preservation strategies.
EXHIBITION AND WORKSHOP
USJ strives to provide our students with a sound academic foundation and to contribute to their integrated development as responsible global citizens. In the academic year 2023-2024, as part of our commitment to SDG 11, USJ celebrated the creative talents of communication and media graduates with an Exhibition. The event was a celebration of the students’ achievements and a testament to the our commitment to nurturing young, creative minds and centred around capturing the fluidity of Macau’s landscapes and the city’s perpetual transformation. Our Department of Architecture and Design also held a Workshop on using cutting-edge digital tools and techniques to enhance urban planning and design. Participants learned to analyse spatial data, visualise urban environments, and develop innovative solutions for sustainable city planning.
